Bawumia states two reasons why Mahama is avoiding presidential debate

 

Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has shot a salvo at former President John Dramani Mahama, over his refusal to honour the New Patriotic Party’s call for a presidential debate.

According to Bawumia, the facts have it that the NPP administration led by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has outperformed what was done by the NDC’s flag bearer during his tenure as President.

He says the facts are there to provide evidence to the performance of the two administrations, something he is aware John Mahama is not oblivious of, with his background as a student of History.

Dr. Bawumia has also indicated that John Mahama, apart from admitting that the NPP has performed better, is afraid to present to Ghanaians, what he has to offer,heading into the next elections.

These, are the two reason the NPP flag bearer says is making the NDC avoid a presidential debate ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s Manifesto at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi Sunday, August 18, 2024, Dr. Bawumia indicated that John Mahama is not an option.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, if there was any doubt, I believe it is crystal clear from the data-backed account we have given that our overall performance and track record are superior to that of my opponent and his party in virtually every sector!

“But, I believe as a former president and a proud student of history, he knows that and that is one part of the reason why he is avoiding a debate

“The other part, of course, is about the courage and confidence to put what he intends to do differently this time around with the power he seeks, side by side to the vision I have for Ghana and the clear roadmap to getting the work done,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, also speaking at the event, indicated that engaging in a debate is the only means the NDC can expose Bawumia’s lies and inconsistencies if that’s who they claim he is.

“If indeed they believe that Dr. Bawumia is not consistent with his vision, they should stand up for a debate. It is only through a debate that they can expose Dr. Bawumia. If they run away from a debate, then they are the liars and inconsistent people in the country,” he stated.
