The ad, titled "Flag," will air toward the end of "NBA Countdown."

To target young voters who are anticipated to watch the game, President Joe Biden's campaign will play an advertisement during the pregame show prior to Thursday night's NBA Finals opening game.

In the one-minute ad, "Flag," Biden promotes his support for abortion rights while denouncing the "extreme movement" that aims to undermine American democracy and ignore election results.

The advertisement, which concludes with an appeal to defend democracy, shows video footage of the crowd that stormed the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

"Joe Biden is running for reelection to make certain that the sun will not set on this flag," says the storyteller. "The promise of American democracy will not break."

In a statement, Michael Tyler, a Biden campaign spokesman, said, "Not since the Civil War have freedom and democracy been under assault in America as they are today due to the threat that Donald Trump poses to the American people."

Tyler called Trump "a convicted felon," mirroring language that Democrats have begun to use more frequently since Trump was convicted by a New York jury last week in connection to hush-money payments he made to an adult film star before the 2016 election.

On Thursday, the Democratic National Committee unveiled billboards across Phoenix, where Trump is holding an event, calling the former president a convicted felon and claiming he is "unfit to serve."

Trump has repeated claims that the trial was "rigged" with a biased judge and prosecutors. He has said he will continue to fight against the legal battles that have consumed much of his third White House bid. The team is hoping that the television spot will draw in young voters, who Democrats believe are crucial to Biden's reelection victory in what is anticipated to be a close contest.

The majority of young people support Democrats, but some are unhappy with Biden's handling of the Israel-Gaza War.
The Biden team highlighted in a news release how many young voters had watched the NBA Finals throughout the years.
The campaign also mentioned that major battleground areas including Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Phoenix had good total viewership for the previous year's series.
