Madagascar's 2-1 victory over Comoros in the Group I qualifications has significantly raised Ghana's hopes of making it to the 2026 World Cup.

The game, which took place on Friday at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium, opened up the group and gave Ghana complete control over their future.

Madagascar’s Barea secured the win through a stunning performance by Rayan Raveloson, who scored twice, with his first goal coming in under a minute and the second sealing the victory. Comoros pulled one back in stopagge time but was not enough to get them anything.

This result has shaken up the group standings, tying Madagascar, Comoros, and Ghana each on six points after three games.

Madagascar now lead the group on goal difference, while Comoros sits above Ghana due to their head-to-head advantage, having defeated the West Africans in their second encounter.

Ghana’s victory against Mali has positioned them well, and they now need to aim for wins in their remaining matches to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

The Black Stars must capitalise on their home advantage against the CAR on Monday. With three teams tied at six points, each game is crucial, and Ghana’s path to their fifth World Cup appearance will depend on their ability to maintain consistency and secure victories in the remaining fixtures.

Ghanaian fans are called upon to rally behind the Black Stars as they navigate these critical qualifiers. The passionate support from the stands at the Baba Yara Stadium could provide the necessary boost for the team to overcome their challenges and set the tone to achieve their World Cup dreams.
